Top customer service award secured for the second successive year
Hanson picked up the ‘excellence in customer service’ prize at the 2017 Concrete Society awards for the second year in a row.
Following the success of the Walthamstow Blockade project in London last year, the north concrete team was named as the 2017 winner for two complex contracts for rail infrastructure specialists Story Contracting.
The first was the reinstatement of the Carlisle to Settle railway at Eden Brows in Cumbria, described as one of the biggest engineering challenges ever undertaken by Network Rail. It involved replacing over half a million tonnes of earth washed away during severe flooding, with steel and concrete piles and a 1.5 metre thick 100 metre long concrete slab on the hillside to provide a stable base for the railway track.
The second was for concrete slab and track replacement at Liverpool central station on the Merseyrail underground loop in the city centre – part of a major upgrade for the line. A specialist mix from the Garston plant had to travel nearly a mile underground before being placed.
Concrete managing director Brian Charleton said: “Well done and congratulations to everyone involved. It shows what a strong team we have and how significant challenges can be overcome to provide service excellence.”
