Mega-mixer is ideal for big pours
An articulated concrete mixer truck with the UK’s largest load capacity is being trialled on customer sites across the country. The specially designed DAF can carry up to 12 cubic metres – over twice as much as a standard truck mixer. Regional transport manager Tim Sage said the new vehicle was an industry-leading development.
“Feedback has been good since the evaluation started last summer. We are giving it as much exposure as possible across our plants and with key customers across the country,” said Tim, who worked with suppliers on the specifications.
“Hanson Australia uses articulated mixers and we have used some elements from them – like rear wheel steering – for our design, which has taken the best part of a year to go from drawing board to getting one on the road. Its capacity is ideal for big pours, and it is more efficient and sustainable as it reduces vehicle movements.”
Keeping the vehicle’s weight down was crucial to enabling its larger load. Along with smaller support wheels and plastic delivery chutes, it uses a hydraulic power take-off from the low-emission
Euro 6 engine instead of a separate – and heavy – diesel motor to run the mixer.
“The truck also has all the latest safety features and includes a lower passenger door window for improved visibility,” said Tim.
